Prigozhin’s revolt exposes weaknesses in Kremlin, bolsters Lukashenka, US analysts say
The recent rebellion led by Yevgeny Prigozhin has revealed weaknesses within the Kremlin, while strengthening the position of Belarusian strongman Alyaksandr Lukashenka, according to the latest report by the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

ISW analysts predict that the effects of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s televised appearance, calling for an end to the armed revolt and invoking the threat of a new October Revolution, along with the need for mediation by a foreign leader, will have lasting consequences.
„The Kremlin is grappling with instability. The agreement brokered by Lukashenka may provide a short-term resolution, but it is not a long-term solution. Prigozhin’s rebellion has exposed serious weaknesses within the Kremlin and the defense ministry,” according to ISW.
The report highlights that the revolt also showcased Putin’s inability to swiftly employ security measures in response to an internal threat. Prigozhin’s rapid march on Moscow mocked Russia’s regular armed forces, demonstrating to the Kremlin elite that a privately funded mercenary army can achieve remarkable results.
Furthermore, it underscored the insufficient military reserves available to the Kremlin. The internal security apparatus failed to mount an effective response, enabling the seizure of military facilities by the rogue mercenaries and the subsequent march on Moscow, the report stated.
ISW analysts also assessed that thanks to his alleged role in brokering an agreement between Prigozhin and the Kremlin, Lukashenka has strengthened his political position in the process.
