The two high-ranking officials met in Washington to discuss Russia’s war in Ukraine and Polish-US relations, among other issues.

At a press conference held following the talks, the Polish foreign minister praised NATO’s position on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, describing the alliance’s response as swift and unequivocal.

„When it came to this very tragic event, we as allies, as NATO members, showed firmness, resilience, and determination in the defence of our common values,” Rau said.

The United States, due to its military capability, has played a central role in NATO, the Western defence alliance.

According to Reuters, since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, the United States has sent about USD 19.3 billion worth of security assistance to Kyiv.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told the conference that the relationship between Poland and the United States was at an all-time high.

„I can’t think of a time when the United States and Poland, and our partnership has been more important and more effective,” Blinken said.

Also, the US secretary of state emphasized Poland’s role in mobilizing financial support and military aid to Ukraine.

„Thanks to Poland’s leadership we’re standing strong in support of Ukraine – faced with the Russian aggression – supporting it in terms of security assistance, economic assistance, humanitarian assistance,” Antony Blinken said.

„Polish people have done extraordinary things in their generosity towards so many refugees from Ukraine,” Blinken added, referring to Poland opening its arms to millions of those fleeing the Russian invasion.

Friday was day three of the Polish foreign minister’s four-day visit to Washington.
