The announcement was made by Paweł Szefernaker, chief of staff to President Karol Nawrocki.
“On January 1 at 11:45 a.m., and from then on every Saturday at 11:45 a.m., the flag flying over the Presidential Palace will be ceremonially changed,” Szefernaker wrote on Wednesday on X.
„The flag taken from the mast will be donated to local communities around Poland,” he added.
Officials said the flags would be donated to schools, volunteer fire brigades and other local institutions.
Presidential spokesman Rafał Leśkiewicz said the flag flying over the palace serves as a reminder that Poland is a free and sovereign country.
„The flag is a symbol of continuity—from the crowning of the first kings to modern times,” Leśkiewicz wrote on X.
„It is also a commitment to care for our homeland, to take responsibility for its future and to respect the national community it represents.” he added.
