Polish First Lady Marta Nawrocka to visit Austria

Polish First Lady Marta Nawrocka will travel to Austria on Sunday to attend commemorations marking the 343rd anniversary of the Battle of Vienna and the 43rd anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s visit to Kahlenberg, the Office of the President of Poland announced on Saturday.

The visit will be Nawrocka’s third solo foreign trip since becoming first lady, following visits to Paris and Washington. She will travel together with Presidential Chief of Staff Paweł Szefernaker and presidential adviser Jan Józef Kasprzyk.

Nawrocka will begin her visit on Sunday morning by attending a Mass marking the anniversary of the 1683 Battle of Vienna. The service will be held at the Polish National Shrine on Kahlenberg.

In the early afternoon, the first lady will attend a memorial ceremony featuring the 11th „King Jan III Sobieski” Armoured Cavalry Division. The ceremony will take place on the square in front of the Polish National Shrine.

According to the President’s Office, the commemorations in Kahlenberg will also provide an opportunity for Nawrocka to meet representatives of the Polish community in Austria.

Data from Poland’s Central Statistical Office, cited by the President’s Office, show that as of early 2025 there were 67,543 Polish citizens living in Austria. Poles constitute the country’s tenth-largest foreign national community. Around 50 Polish diaspora organizations are officially active across Austria.
