Join The Local Protests Over The Cost Of Living On November 12th
Rents are so high that many are trapped paying much of their income to landlords. Food prices have shot up. Big energy companies are making enormous profits and pushing up prices.
The government is not doing enough. They have given once-off payments – but inflation is here to stay for a long time. They have given a €600 credit for energy usage – but it will not meet rising prices.
We need proper price controls to stop the profiteering. Price controls on energy need to be linked to a re-nationalisation of the whole sector. The ESB should return to a not-For Profit mandate to help cut costs.
We need proper rent controls that allow for reductions. Despite their much-vaunted rent pressure zone, rents have increased by 84 percent over the last decade.
We need to protest to force this government to act. That is what worked over water charges when we forced the government to back down.
On November 12th, the Cost of Living Coalition has called local protests. Here is the list of the ones we know of. We urge you to join them.
