Speaking at an armaments plant in Siemianowice Śląskie in the south of his country, Mateusz Morawiecki said that Ukraine had ordered 100 Rosomak armoured personnel carriers from Poland and that the Polish plant would handle the order.

The purchase will be financed using European and American funds designed to support Ukraine’s war effort against Russia, he announced.

Morawiecki said the order for the Polish Rosomaks was placed on Friday by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

He described the Rosomak as a „flagship brand of the Polish defence industry,” alongside the Krab gun howitzer.

He revealed that talks were under way to sell Rosomaks to countries including Slovenia and Saudi Arabia.

He told reporters: „Today Ukraine is the bulwark of freedom, the bulwark of the free world, and Poland is becoming a provider of security for other countries, together with our American and NATO allies.”

Morawiecki said at the start of this week that his government would soon launch a new programme to step up the production of ammunition to support Ukraine’s war effort against the Russian invasion and strengthen Poland’s own defences „amid the threat from the Kremlin.”

The Polish prime minister said last week that his country had secured a further EUR 200 million from the EU for defence expenditures as Russia continues to wage war in Ukraine.
