As the cost of living crisis deepens we need to ensure that tomorrow’s protest is huge.New inflation figures in the South showed that it’s now 7.8%, the highest figure in 38 yearsWhile energy costs have soared with electricity now 41% higher than a year ago, prices across a wide range of items are going up. Food prices went up by 4.5%.Inflation is hitting those on lowest incomes most while profiteering, CEO salaries and the income of company directors are all escalatingTo the end of March hourly wages had increased by 1.9%. Inflation was 6.9% in March. Therefore real wages are being cut on a massive scale not seen since the financial crash. In some sectors, average hourly earnings actually fell: 4.1% in hospitality. Yet prices in restaurants and hotels went up by an average of 3.6% and accommodation services prices by 13.7%.Talk of a wage-price spiral is nonsense. It’s not wages that are the problem but the massive profits being made by corporations. We need profit restraint, not wage restraint. Workers need a pay rise and a Living Wage. A windfall tax should be levied on company profits. Many households are being crushed by the cost of living crisis.  The Government in the South is refusing to take any action before the next budget in October. We need to send an urgent message that people can’t wait. We need action now to control prices and boost incomes.

We are appealing to all members and supporters to get behind tomorrows mobilisations.
