Polish PM rejects Trump’s claim, says Russia blocking peace plan

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Thursday that Russia—not Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky—is responsible for rejecting a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine.

In an interview with Reuters, Trump said he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin was ready to strike a deal. “I think he’s ready to make a deal,” Trump said. “I think Ukraine is less ready to make a deal.” Asked why U.S.-led negotiations had not yet resolved the war, he answered simply: “Zelensky.”

Posting on X, Tusk wrote in English: “The only Russian response were further missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. This is why the only solution is to strengthen pressure on Russia. And you all know it.”

His comments followed a wave of Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, which prompted Kyiv to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector on Wednesday. In the capital, electricity, heat, and water outages were reported.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the city was experiencing its most severe conditions since the full-scale Russian invasion began in February 2022. A crisis task force has been established to coordinate the response.
