The Vatican said the pope would receive Tusk in a morning audience at 9 a.m., on the eve of the first anniversary of Leo’s election as leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
Later in the day, Tusk will hold talks with Meloni at her office in Palazzo Chigi at 3:30 p.m., according to the Italian government.
Tusk confirmed the meetings on Monday, saying he would visit both the Vatican and the Italian prime minister as part of his trip to Rome.
„I’m pleased to confirm that I will be in Rome, not only at the Vatican with Pope Leo, but also for a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Meloni,” Tusk told reporters before returning to Warsaw from a European Political Community summit in Yerevan, Armenia.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is also expected to visit Rome and the Vatican on Thursday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
