Poland names 94-strong team for European Athletics Championships

Poland has selected a team of 94 athletes to compete at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, which will be held in Rome from June 7 to 12.

Team Poland, made up of 44 men and 50 women, is headed by sprinter Ewa Swoboda and includes reigning European 100m hurdles champion Pia Skrzyszowska and top-performing 400m runner Natalia Kaczmarek.

Other standout entrants on the team include long-distance runner Aleksandra Lisowska, who won a historic gold for Poland in the women’s marathon at the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich, Germany.

The Polish team also includes three-time Olympic champion Anita Włodarczyk in the women’s hammer throw and reigning European and Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki in the men’s hammer.

Poland’s other medal hopes are hammer thrower Paweł Fajdek, a four-time world champion, pole vaulter Piotr Lisek, a former European indoor champion, and javelin thrower Maria Andrejczyk, who claimed silver at the Tokyo Olympics.

Poland won 14 medals, three gold, six silver and five bronze, at the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich.
