Poland plans to begin talks next year on formally submitting a bid to host the 2040 Summer Olympic Games, officials have said.

The announcement was made during a recent presentation in Warsaw outlining the next steps in the „Sports Development Strategy: Warsaw 2040,” a long-term plan aimed at strengthening Poland’s position as a prospective Olympic host.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk first signalled Poland’s intention in August last year, saying the country would seek to host the Summer Games, with 2040 or 2044 as realistic target dates.
His statement followed Poland’s disappointing showing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where it won just one gold medal.
Poland took home 10 medals overall and finished 42nd in the overall standings, its worst performance since 1956.
The sports ministry’s „Sports Development Strategy: Warsaw 2040,” also unveiled in August 2024, lays out a broader effort to transform Polish sports over the next two decades, with an Olympic bid as one component of the plan.
