Polish FM criticises president over stalled ambassadorial appointments amid US-Russia reset
Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has publicly questioned President Karol Nawrocki for blocking 40 ambassadorial nominations, warning that the delay undermines the country’s diplomacy amid a potential US-Russia reset near Poland’s borders.

Sikorski highlighted the president’s failure to act on urgent foreign policy matters, while correspondence from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the nominations remains unanswered, increasing strain between Poland’s top diplomatic and political offices.
Polish FM suggests President Nawrocki ignores Ukraine and EU amid US-Russia reset
On the morning of Tuesday, 2 December 2025, Poland’s top diplomat wrote on social media that during the unfolding US-Russia reset, President Karol Nawrocki “instead of intervening with his patron in Washington, attacks the European Union and Ukraine. The ambassadorial nominations remain unsigned. No, because no. No, thank you.”
The Deputy Prime Minister and head of diplomacy also referred to Nawrocki’s reportedly close ties with former US President Donald Trump, which, according to right-wing politicians, have yet to produce concrete action on urgent foreign policy issues.
Later the same day, he addressed claims from one of Nawrocki’s advisors suggesting that he had rejected a proposal to approve the ambassadorial appointments, clarifying that the letter containing the nominations “remained unanswered.”
Diplomatic tensions over ambassador appointments and anti-EU remarks
The dispute follows weeks of friction over diplomatic posts, a conflict tracing back to the tenure of former President Andrzej Duda, who was closely associated with the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party.
Recent disagreements have also included the approval of long-service awards within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as criticism of an anti-EU speech delivered by Nawrocki during his recent visit to the Czech Republic.
The speech drew strong backlash, particularly from members of Donald Tusk’s centrist, pro-European government.
