Poland’s first military satellites to be launched in November

Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed the plans on Wednesday during a visit to the Lipa training ground in south-eastern Poland, where the newly inaugurated Camp Jomsborg training centre for Ukrainian forces is located.

Four satellites will be placed in orbit – most of them micro-satellites – along with the first monochromatic imaging satellite. The technology allows continuous observation regardless of weather conditions or time of day.
In an interview with TVN24 earlier on Wednesday, Kosiniak-Kamysz said the monochromatic satellites are being supplied by the Polish-Finnish company ICEYE.
The equipment will be transported from Finland to the United States, with the launch scheduled to take place from Cape Canaveral in Florida.
The Polish armed forces are currently pursuing four satellite programmes: MikroSAR, MikroGLOB, SAR and PIAST. All are designed to give the military an effective satellite-based observation system, with officials saying the new technology will make it possible to detect threats with significant advance warning.
New training centre for Ukrainian forces opens in Poland
On 1 October, Kosiniak-Kamysz – who also serves as deputy prime minister – inaugurated a new training centre for the Ukrainian armed forces, Camp Jomsborg, at the Dęba-Lipa Land Forces Training Centre. The opening was attended by Norway’s defence minister, Tore O. Sandvik.
The camp is being developed as part of an international initiative by the Norwegian armed forces, hosted on Polish territory.
