130+ teams from 25 countries in Poland-hosted 40th Shell Eco-Marathon

Shell Eco-Marathon dubs itself as „one of the world’s leading energy-efficiency engineering programmes for students”, aiming to „push the boundaries of what is technically possible”, and „inspire young people to become leading scientists and engineers of future energy solutions”.

Come June, more than 130 teams from 25 countries will compete in the 40th Shell Eco-Marathon Europe & Africa – hosted by Poland in 2025.

The programme provides a platform for high school and university teams to explore every aspect of design and technology – using their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) skills to build their own ultra-energy-efficient cars, and then take them out on the track in competition.

This time, the arena will be the Silesia Ring in southcentral Poland’s Kamień Śląski. The winner will be the vehicle that covers the longest distance using the least energy – regardless of whether it is powered by petrol, hydrogen or electricity.

Shell Polska spokeswoman, Katarzyna Cyran-Solarz, said that over the previous 39 editions, the participants set numerous world records in extreme fuel economy. A few years ago, one of the teams covered 3,771 kilometres on one litre of fuel. It is like going from London to Rome and back!

Poland will be represented by teams from Kraków’s AGH University of Science and Technology, Universities of Technology from Lublin and Łódź, and the State Academy of Applied Sciences in Krosno.

The 40th edition of Shell Eco-Marathon Europe & Africa will kick off on 10th of June, and conclude 5 days later, on June 15th.
