Polish PM courts Japanese investment on Tokyo visit

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is in Tokyo seeking Japanese business engagement, telling investors that Poland will spend more on infrastructure and energy than any other European country.

Speaking at the Polish embassy, Tusk said Poland plans to invest nearly EUR 250 billion in energy sector modernisation over the next decade and invited Japanese firms to take part.

He described Poland as the EU’s economic growth leader and one of Europe’s strongest military powers.

Tusk also said he will meet Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Wednesday, with the two leaders expected to agree on elevating bilateral ties to a „comprehensive strategic partnership” – the highest diplomatic tier.

Tusk also praised Japan’s support for Ukraine, calling Tokyo’s stance „enormously encouraging” for both Warsaw and Kyiv despite the geographical distance from the conflict.

On Wednesday, alongside the summit with Takaichi, the Polish prime minister is scheduled to meet with Keidanren, Japan’s largest business federation.

Tusk also plans to present his Japanese counterpart with a translation of 19th-century Polish author Bolesław Prus’ classic novel The Doll (Lalka).

The Polish delegation has been travelling across Asia since Sunday, with South Korea visited earlier in the trip.
