The fire broke out at around 8 a.m. Flames cut off the firefighters’ route during the operation, Polish media reported.
They were quickly evacuated from the area, but could not be saved, regional fire service spokesman Marcin Betleja said.
Thirty-nine fire service units and around 150 firefighters from the Nisko, Leżajsk, Stalowa Wola and Łańcut counties were at the scene.
Authorities appealed to residents to close their windows. People living in houses closest to the fire evacuated on their own.
The two firefighters were identified by Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński as „Bartłomiej and Wojciech” from the State Fire Service in Nisko.
President Karol Nawrocki, among others, expressed condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased.
