Polish PM urges supporters to ‘stand up’ after Nawrocki sworn in as president
Prime Minister Donald Tusk urged Poles disappointed by Karol Nawrocki’s swearing-in as president not to lose faith, pledging to defend the constitution and press on after a “sad and disappointing” day.

Tusk said in a social-media address that defeats “happen in life, as in sport,” adding that “after a defeat you must get up and move on.” He told supporters there is “only one way” to answer a loss: belief in victory.
Addressing those who had expected “10 years of embarrassment, sadness and fears for the homeland” to end, he said recent events “put our faith to a serious test” and that “new fears” have joined old ones.
He appealed to backers of the ruling coalition not to lose confidence in goodness, honesty and freedom, calling them “the salt of this earth.”
Nawrocki was sworn in before the National Assembly, the combined houses of the Sejm and Senate. Commenting on the new president’s speech, Tusk said it showed a desire for powers held by the prime minister and government, stressing the constitution is clear. He hoped the “confrontational tone” would not have practical consequences and vowed to stand as a guardian of the constitution if needed.
