The strike was conducted with unmanned aerial vehicles overnight into Wednesday, Ukraine’s state news agency Ukrinform reported.

Russian drones set the Kremenchuk oil refinery ablaze, but the fire was put out quickly, according to Filip Pronin, the head of military administration in Ukraine’s central Poltava region.

The extent of the damage was unclear, in what was another of many Russian attacks on the facility, which is not operational, the Reuters news agency reported.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s air force said it had brought down 18 out of 20 drones and a missile that had been launched by Russia overnight.

They had been intended to strike Ukraine’s military and critical infrastructure, officials in Kyiv stated.

„The focus of the attack was Poltava region, it was attacked in several waves,” Ukraine’s Air Force Spokesman Yuriy Ihnat said on national TV.

Falling UAV debris damaged railway power lines in the central Kirovohrad region, however the damage was quickly repaired, according to regional officials.

Russia conducted another missile strike on the Poltava region and the southern Odesa province later on Wednesday morning, according to the Ukrainian military.

There were no immediate reports of the impact of the attack, the Reuters news agency noted.
