Polish jobless rate lowest in EU, at 3.1% in January: Eurostat

Unemployment in Poland stood at 3.1 percent in January, marking the lowest rate in the 27-nation European Union, the bloc’s statistics agency has reported.

Poland and Bulgaria tied for the lowest jobless rate in the bloc in January, each with 3.1 percent, followed by the Czech Republic with 3.2 percent, according to the Eurostat agency.

Meanwhile, Finland had the highest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in the EU, at 10.8 percent, and Spanish unemployment was the second-highest at 9.8 percent, according to the latest available data.

Eurostat reported on Wednesday that the EU average for January was 5.8 percent, down from 5.9 percent in December and from 6 percent in January 2025.

Poland’s statistics office (GUS), which uses a different methodology, reported last month that the Polish jobless rate had risen to 6 percent in January, from 5.7 percent in December.
