The largest anti-government protests in years are currently sweeping through Tehran and other Iranian cities, driven by the country’s dire economic situation.
On Thursday night, thousands of people took to the streets of the Iranian capital. In some areas, the demonstrations escalated into violent clashes. International news agencies reported buses and cars set ablaze, as well as fires near metro stations and banks. Video footage from Tehran also captured chants rarely heard in Iran, including „Death to Khamenei.”
