The deal covers the design of a Polish version of the BWRX-300 reactor and marks a formal step towards building what Warsaw describes as a fleet of SMRs.
Officials say the agreement will accelerate project preparation, reduce costs and involve Polish industry in the supply chain.
Poland’s Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka, who signed the agreement alongside US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, called it a historic moment.
„This confirms that Poland not only wants to lead – it is doing everything to become the leader of SMR development in Central and Eastern Europe,” he said.
Minister Motyka added that Poland is pursuing both large-scale nuclear power plants and small modular reactors in parallel, to ensure a stable, zero-emission energy system and predictable conditions for business.
The minister described the agreement as „as a further step in strengthening the Polish-American alliance”.
