The commitment was highlighted during a meeting between Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, and his Australian counterpart, Richard Marles, in Warsaw on Friday.

At a joint press conference following their discussions, Kosiniak-Kamysz lauded Australia as a crucial ally in various sectors, notably in economic, security, and defense realms.

„Australia is not only a friend but a very strong partner that collaborates closely with NATO,” he said, as quoted by state news agency PAP. Kosiniak-Kamysz also announced that a new agreement on security and defense cooperation between the two nations had been drafted, which will enhance their collaborative efforts, particularly with a focus on the situation in Ukraine.

He also expressed gratitude towards Australia for its substantial support to Ukraine, encompassing financial, humanitarian, and military assistance.

According to PAP, discussions also covered trade exchanges, particularly in the defense industry, with plans to expand participation in fairs and develop mutual offerings to boost this sector.

For his part, Marles emphasized the deep mutual trust and personal connections underpinning the bilateral relations. He commended Poland’s leadership in supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression.

„Given the increasing global awareness of the situation in Europe, our relationship with Poland is becoming ever more crucial,” Marles noted, underscoring Australia’s vested interest in maintaining international order not only in the Indo-Pacific but also in Europe.
