The Pentagon’s large munitions depots in Israel are used to meet the needs of the US military in the Middle East. They can also be used by the Israeli army in cases of emergency.

The New York Times reported that as an effect of a decision last year, the American government diverted around 300,000 155-millimeter artillery shells from Israel to Ukraine. The newspaper also said that around half of that has been sent to US allies in Europe for redistribution to Ukraine.

While Israel has condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it has limited its assistance to Kyiv to humanitarian aid and protective gear, trying to protect the rapport that the country’s conservative government has built with Moscow over the years.
