United with Ukraine: Online event on Ireland’s response 🇺🇦🇮🇪

The invasion of Ukraine is an illegal, unjustified, and egregious act of aggression by Russia. This is a critical time both for our country and Europe, and this terrible war provides an important opportunity for discussion and debate on a range of issues.

To that end, next Monday, March 21st at 7.30pm, Fine Gael will hold a special online event on Ireland’s response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

­The event will be chaired by Senator Mary Seery Kearney and will feature contributions from: Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys TDMinister for Justice, Helen McEntee TDMinister of State with responsibility for Overseas Development Aid and Diaspora, Colm Brophy TDGalway TD Ciaran Cannon, who recently spoke of his experience helping people fleeing conflict – see here Liam O’Dwyer, Interim Secretary-General of the Irish Red Cross, will also join the meeting to discuss the ongoing humanitarian effort and supports needed on the ground and for those fleeing Ukraine. Ireland’s efforts to support Ukraine are aimed at bringing an immediate end to this war, ensuring accountability for violations of international humanitarian and human rights law, and meeting the needs of those caught in the midst of terror. Ireland has been at the forefront of the humanitarian response: Over €30 million has been committed so far with more to come10 tonnes or 5,000 units of ready-to-eat meals (MREs) and 200 units of body armour sent to UkraineOver 6,000 Ukrainian refugees have now arrived in Ireland and we expect more to arrive in the coming weeks and months I invite you to attend this virtual meeting at this crucial time for our country and join in this important discussion.
