Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk said the road dovetails with the Polish-led Three Seas Initiative.
“Via Carpatia will be an engine of development. This is how the Three Seas countries see it,” Adamczyk said on Saturday.
The Polish-led Three Seas Initiative aims to boost infrastructure, energy and economic cooperation among 12 countries between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas.
The initiative brings together Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary.
The Via Carpatia will run from Lithuania, through the Polish cities of Białystok, Lublin, Rzeszów, to Košice in eastern Slovakia and on to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece.
