Everybody bar the Government in Dublin know that an Irish Unity referendum is on the cards

Taking to social media this week Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald has said it seems everybody knows a referendum on Irish Unity is on the cards except the government in Dublin.

She said now is the time for all of us to plan and prepare for Irish Unity.

Sinn Féin in Government will solve the housing crisis

Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD this week challenged the Tánaiste Leo Varadkar in the Dáil on the housing crisis which has seen the cheapest apartment in Dublin City priced at €439,000, way out of reach of those on average incomes.

Pearse asked the Tánaiste what planet was he living on and said Sinn Féin in Government will solve the housing crisis.

North’s Health Workers to receive £500 payment

Health workers in the north are to receive a £500 payment in recognition of their heroic work to save lives. 

Chair of the Assembly’s Health Committee Colm Gildernew MLA welcomed this news and said the Minister must now act to properly support student nurses.

Leaving Cert Students should be given the clarity, fairness and a choice

Mary Lou McDonald has told the Taoiseach it’s time Leaving Cert students are given the choice, clarity and fairness they urgently need.

Micheál Martin’s failure to give a clear answer on any of the issues raised is unacceptable.

Government has opted for half measures in terms of quarantine and international travel

Responding to the extension of level 5 lockdown measures this week Mary Lou McDonald said she is disappointed that the Government has opted for half measures in terms of quarantine and international travel.

Meanwhile Sinn Féin’s Transport spokesperson Darren O’Rourke TD has said that we could have mandatory quarantine regime here, including at Belfast, if we had the sharing of information. 

He said; „There have been repeated requests by the Health Minister in the North to Minister Stephen Donnelly, but no action. That is not good enough.”

Survivors and victims of the North’s Mother and Baby Homes must have their voices heard

Speaking this week Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Michelle O’Neill MLA said the treatment of women in Mother and Baby Homes in the North was cruel, unjust and inhumane.

She said this week marked a major milestone for survivors and that this is the start of the final length of a long road to justice.

The voices of victims and survivors must now be heard.

£13 million for affordable homes

The North’s Communities Minister, Sinn Féin’s Deirdre Hargey MLA, has announced a £13 million scheme to deliver 420 new affordable homes.

She said first time buyers should be supported to achieve the dream of owning their own home.

We want to hear from third-level students

Sinn Féin Higher Education spokesperson Rose Conway-Walsh TD has said she wants to hear directly from students in third-level on how they are coping with all the pressures related to Covid-19 and remote and blended learning.

She said only be really listening to students will we be able to support and assist them.

Some 350 people attended the online Dianchúrsa organised by Sinn Féin last weekend. This will be followed by a 6 week period of classes. Huge well done to the organisers and all those who took part.
