Confirmation of choice between calculated grade traditional written leaving cert welcomed

Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire has congratulated students on their successful campaign for a choice between a calculated grade and a written leaving cert exam after the Minister confirmed that this would be the case this year.

Birth Certs for Adoptees Bill

Sinn Féin’s Kathleen Funchion TD this week introduced a Bill that will allow all adopted persons the legal right to their birth cert.

It will be debated in two weeks' time. We are calling on TDs from all parties and none to support this important legislation and stand-up for the rights of adopted people.

Family carers should be prioritised for vaccination

Speaking in the Dáil this week Mary Lou McDonald called for family carers to be prioritised for vaccination.

She said we need a game-changer for family carers. They are also frontline health workers and deserve to be recognised as such.

British Government plan mass purge of voters in the North

The British Government is planning a mass purge of voters in the North.

This is a blatant attempt to suppress the voice of citizens in next year’s historic assembly election.

The right to vote was hard fought for and must be protected.

Sinn Féin will robustly challenge this proposal.

Ulster Bank withdrawal a hammer blow for workers and consumers

Speaking in the Dáil this week Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty has said the government must not allow vulture funds to feast on mortgage holders, workers, small businesses and communities as Ulster Bank leaves the Irish banking market.

£300 million for workers, families and businesses 

The North’s Finance Minister, Sinn Féin MLA Conor Murphy has said an extra £300 million received by the Executive will help boost our public services and help people in our communities.

He said it’s welcome that this money can be carried over to the next financial year to continue that support.

Legislation to protect renters from eviction extended

The North’s Communities Minister, Sinn Féin MLA Deirdre Hargey has announced that legislation to protect renters from eviction has been extended.

Deirdre said people need certainty and assurances that they will have a safe place to call home.
