Ballymurphy victims and families vindicated

This week, after 50 years, the Ballymurphy families have been vindicated and facts have been laid bare before the world. The families always knew the truth and today it has been proven.

The British Government cannot block the families from getting justice.

Israeli apartheid regime must be held to account

Speaking at a demonstration outside the Dáil this week Sinn Féin Foreign Affairs spokesperson John Brady TD said the international community must hold the Israeli apartheid regime to account for its crimes against the Palestinian people.

The Irish Government must use its seat on the UN Security Council to ensure human rights are protected.

John also spoke in the Dáil urging the government to use its position on the UN Security Council to full effect to bring the force of international pressure to bear on the apartheid policies of Israel.

40th Anniversary of the death of Francis Hughes on hunger strike

Forty years ago this week, Francis Hughes from Bellaghy died on hunger strike in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh after 59 days. He was 25 years-old. 

Speaking at his funeral, Martin McGuinness said:

„His body lies here beside us but he lives in the little streets of Belfast; he lives in the Bogside; he lives in East Tyrone; he lives in Crossmaglen. 

„He will always live in the hearts and minds of unconquerable Irish republicans in all these places. They could not break him. They will not break us.”

Government votes to stand with vulture funds and for sky high rents

Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and the Green Party this week voted down two Sinn Féin motions to stop vulture funds buying up family homes and to cut rents, ban rent increases and put a month’s rent back into renters pockets.

Speaking in the Dáil on Thursday Pearse Doherty asked the Tánaiste Leo Varadkar when he would deliver for renters and those who want to own their own home.

Maternity Hospital restrictions must end

Fine Gael housing policy has put home ownership out of reach even for those on good incomes

Speaking on The Tonight Show on Virgin Media One this week, Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin said;

„Our problem at the moment is over the last five or six years because of Fine Gael housing policy, the cost of owning your own home has gone up so much that even people on good incomes can’t afford to buy.”

Sinn Féin motion on Autism diagnosis and services passes in Assembly

Sinn Féin’s motion for increased funding and quicker access to Autism diagnosis and services has passed in the Assembly this week. The party’s health spokesperson Colm Gildernew described it as a victory for people with Autism, their families and carers.
