Protest: Sat 29 January at 2pm at St Helen’s Court, 127 Lower George’s Street

It is crunch time for the tenants in St Helen’s Court. The vulture fund is taking them to court to force them out of their homes on 4 February.

For four years, the tenants have bravely resisted repeated efforts by two vulture funds to mass evict them. These tenants have done nothing wrong. They have lived as a community for many years and have always paid their rent. The vulture fund has no reason for evicting them other than greed to increase the value of the property.

There are now about 15 perfectly good apartments sitting empty in the complex for up to two years, which could be used to house people.

The tenants have made every effort to get alternative accommodation. But with sky-high rents in the area, way beyond the HAP limits, and the years-long social housing lists, they have nowhere to go.

Richard Boyd Barrett TD has raised the plight of the St Helen’s tenants on multiple occasions in the Dail, appealing to Housing Minister Darragh O’ Brien to intervene and prevent the residents from being made homeless, but the government have failed to act. Cllr Melisa Halpin has brought the issue to the Council again and again.

It is utterly shameful the government allows these vulture funds to make profits from treating people in this way.

There has been great community support for the tenants’ fight against this vulture fund.
They now need our support more than ever.

There will be a protest on Sat 29 January at 2pm at St Helen’s Court, 127 Lower George’s Street and, we will also be protesting outside the court on 4 February. Please come along and show your support.
