Several hundred farmers from across Poland took part in the demonstration, some holding flags in Poland’s red-and-white national colours.

Since early morning hours the demonstrators blocked traffic in central regions of the capital with tractors and scattering cabbages on the streets.

The police intervened, preventing the protest to spread further in the city, many of the participants were fined.

The Saturday protest of AGROunia was held in demand of financial aid for Polish farmers as part of the government’s plan to combat the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The protesters also demanded the introduction of initiatives, which would help boost the sales of Polish agriculture products on the Polish market, eliminating foreign competition and called to end of the discrimination of Polish farmers in Europe.

The leader of AGROunia Michał Kołodziejczak announced on Saturday that further protests can be expected.
