Assembly election campaign heads into the final week

Speaking on the campaign trail this week Michelle O’Neill said Sinn Féin has a clear plan to build a modern and progressive society, and to put money in people’s pockets and strengthen our health service.

This election is about the future, and making politics deliver real change for people.

Election manifesto launched

Sinn Féin also launched its Assembly election manifesto this week.

We launched our plan to strengthen the health service and put money in people’s pockets:

  • £230 for every household
  • £1 billion extra for health service
  • Put £300m in people’s pockets

On day one after this election, Sinn Féin is ready to get back into the Executive and deliver for people.

Price of rents is causing a social catastrophe

Speaking in the Dáil this week Mary Lou McDonald said the price of rents is causing a social catastrophe.  She said the government must immediately cut rents via a €1,500 tax rebate, ban rent increases for three years and ramp up its housing plan with more social and affordable housing.

Doherty calls for a General Election

Speaking on RTÉ Radio’s Morning Ireland this week Sinn Féin TD Pearse Doherty said there shouldn’t be any rotation of Taoiseach at the end of the year, there should be a General Election and let the people decide who should be the Taoiseach of this State.

Sinn Féin motion to scrap the ban on sale of turf

Sinn Féin moved a motion in the Dáil this week to scrap the ban on the sale of turf.

Sinn Féin TD Claire Kerran said turf has been one of the only forms of heating not to see prices spiral in recent months. The Government’s proposed ban punishes communities who rely on turf, instead of introducing measures to support communities in transitioning away from this form of heating in a way that is fair and sustainable.

Unfortunately, despite the posturing from some Government TDs, Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and The Green Party came together to vote Sinn Féin’s motion down.
