Commemoration of Tom Johnson and the Centenary of the Democratic Programme

On Saturday 19th January, the Labour Party will be commemorating the legacy of Tom Johnson and the Centenary of the Democratic Programme of the First Dáil with two events.

Firstly, the Party are co-hosting a seminar with the Irish Labour History Society in the RIU Plaza Gresham Hotel, O’Connell Street, Dublin 1, from 12.30 to 4.15pm; ‘The Democratic Programme: Past, Present and Future.’ 

12:30: Registration
1.00: Introduction and Welcome from Jack McGinley (ILHS) and Cllr. Alex White (LP)
1.10: Panel 1 – The Past: Fionnuala Richardson, Rayner Lysaght, Charles Callan
2.00: Panel 2 – The Present: Evanna Craig, Emmet O’Connor, Senator Ivana Bacik
2.45: Address by Brendan Howlin, TD, Party Leader, on ‘A New Republic’
3.15: Panel 3 – The Future of the New Republic and Tom Johnson’s legacy:Jack O’Connor, Mary McAuliffe, Catriona Crowe, Cllr Alex White, Jack McGinley

The event will be followed by tea and coffee. RSVP to  

For Labour Party members, the Selection Convention for the Dublin Constituency of the European Parliament will follow afterwards in the same venue from 4.30pm (a separate email has been sent around with full details).

Secondly, on the morning of Saturday 19th January, Dublin Bay North Constituency Council would like to invite you to attend the annual Tom Johnson graveside oration at 10am in the Clontarf Cemetery on Castle Avenue, Clontarf, Dublin 3, which will be given this year by Jack O’Connor, Party Chairperson, followed by tea/coffee and scones in Clontarf Castle (just around the corner).
