I don’t remember how long I wandered the coast for, but the seasons had begun to shift by the time that I arrived at the eastern shore and traded for a ticket to the mainland. When the boat landed I started to wander there too. Night after week after month I walked and slept in the ever cooling nights, until I had to seek shelter. At first I slept in barns and the occasional cave but I as I pushed north the cold, even in a barn, became unbearable and I was forced to seek lodgings. Inns and farmers took my coin in exchange for beds, but I never stayed anywhere for more than one night. All the fame and monies I had sought and struggled for had soured. I wanted to trade them all for Luke’s return, even more than Zarinah’s. At least she was safe. Luke was lost.
