Caspian Hope – Written By Stephen Fahey. Part 24

Sunrise saw all souls on watch or bedded down. Each filled with the purpose of circumstance and the dreams that keep a man alive. Most dozed in the rising temperatures, shaded by silk and hope. It found me making notes for the upcoming battles, prepping contingency orders and recalling similar situations in history when a small number of men faced off against massive odds. Again and again I fought the inevitable coming battle in my mind, extrapolating the best course of action. Until we made contact it was all just theory but I was determined to be ready. I owed it my boys. Then, at last, I turned in.

“Sir,” someone whispered.

“I’m up. Who’s that?”

“Sir, it’s Big Tits. Sorry to wake you, Sir.”

“What can I do for you, Drenten?

“I’ve been thinking about Karakoyyn and I can’t sleep without talking on it, Sir. It has bad news written all over it, I know we’re gonna get into the thick of it there.”

“We almost certainly will, yes.”

“Well I just want to offer my services, Sir. If you need me for any extra tasks you know where to find me.”

“Big Tits, you’re all right so you are. We’ll be splitting into different columns to take whatever settlement we find. Will you lead one of these columns for me?”

Yes, SIR. Anything needs doing, Sir!”

“Thanks, Drenten. I’m glad you’re on our side!” I said with a smile as he nodded and turned away to throw his head back down. He had turned out just fine had Drenten. Shame about what came after.

To be continued…
