Wilczyński’s debut Kill It and Leave This Town, an animated horror movie, takes viewers back to the director’s childhood world of the 1960s and 1970s.

The Gdynia Film Festival website describes the movie as a “story about artists who shaped the world of childhood imagination and sensitivity […] A film about disappointments and dreams.”

The Silver Lions went to Swedish film director Magnus von Horn’s Sweat.

A lifetime achievement award was presented to screenwriters and film directors Andrzej Barański and Feliks Falk.

Eight films competed in the main competition of Poland’s Gdynia Film Festival this year, which was held online due to coronavirus restrictions.

Fourteen films had been set to vie for the festival’s top Golden Lions award but due to licensing restrictions on streaming online, only eight could be shown.

The annual Polish Film Festival, first held in 1974, is one of the oldest film festivals in Europe.

The festival provides Poland’s most prestigious showcase of new home-grown movies.
