Dear Customers,

We’ve all been affected by Covid-19 and the restrictions caused by social distancing. Families and businesses around Ireland are adapting to these restrictions, and it looks like they will be with us for some time yet. I hope that you and your family are staying well and coping with these new challenges. 

At Electric Ireland our priority remains safely providing a reliable energy service to 1.1 million homes and businesses throughout the country, with the level of care and service that you have come to expect from us. My colleagues and I are working hard to fulfil our commitment to you, our customer, so that you have the energy that you need at this time.

I wanted to make sure that you are aware of some of the services that we provide which may be of particular use at present. I also need to update you on some small changes that we have made to how we work to ensure that we maintain most of our services but remain mindful of keeping you and your household safe.



Meter Readings


In line with social distancing measures, both ESB Networks and Gas Networks Ireland have stopped carrying out meter readings where that would require someone to call to your home or premises. As a result, your next bill may be based on an estimated meter reading. Your account can operate for some time on estimated readings and will be balanced when an actual reading is eventually taken. However, if you want to make sure that your bills reflect your actual usage in the interim, you have the option of submitting verified gas and electricity meter readings within 5 days of receiving your bill. You can do this simply online by clicking here or by calling our automated service on 1850 372 372, then inputting your account number and choosing option 2. Another option is to submit a meter reading through an online account.



Your Online Account


If you already have an online account, you know that you can also use it to monitor your usage, view your bills and transactions, submit a meter reading, modify your details, register for online billing, and pay your bills at a time that suits you. If you do not have an online account and would like to set up one up, please visit our website. All you will need is your MPRN or GPRN number and you can find them on a recent bill.



Gas Boiler Repair

We are one of Ireland’s leading gas suppliers, and we are specialists when it comes to gas boiler repairs. This is deemed to be an essential service at present, so if you need your boiler repaired, we can call to your home or business and fix faults. Our repair technicians will maintain social distancing and take additional hygiene precautions while they perform the repairs. Continuity of Service


This is a difficult time for all our customers, and therefore we decided to suspend disconnections at the outset of this Covid-19 period. We have now extended this suspension until at least June. We know that many of our customers may unfortunately be experiencing financial difficulties and uncertainty at present. If you are concerned about paying a bill, we ask that you contact us at an early stage and we will work with you to find a solution.



Helping You Save Energy


Many of us are spending more time at home. If you are looking for ways to reduce your energy use around the house, we have updated our Brighter Together Hub with more practical tips on how to be more energy conscious in your home. We have noticed that many more of our customers are visiting this part of our website at present to take advantage of energy saving advice, and you may wish to do so also. Small choices, like switching to LED bulbs, using smart boiler controls or turning down your thermostat, can have a huge impact on your energy use.



Our Work with Pieta


Many people who struggle with mental health may be finding this time especially difficult, which is why the work carried out by our Charity Partner, Pieta, is more important than ever at present. Pieta had to cancel their annual fundraising event, the Darkness Into Light Walk, given the Covid-19 restrictions. However, Electric Ireland is supporting them with their replacement event, the Darkness Into Light Sunrise Appeal on 9th May at 5.30am to offer hope and solidarity. If you or someone you know needs their support, there are lots of helpful resources on the Pieta website.
