Ninety-seven people have drowned in Poland since the start of April, police said on Sunday.

In the first two days of June alone, eight people drowned amid a heat wave, Poland’s PAP news agency reported, citing a spokeswoman for police.

On Saturday, five drownings were reported nationwide as Poles took to lakes, rivers and the Baltic Sea to beat scorching temperatures, spokeswoman Wioletta Szubska said.
