New York picnic honours Polish independence anniversary

The picnic held in the Big Apple’s Greenpoint district featured a ln exhibition entitled “What defines Greenpoint identity?”

The exhibition showed the mark left on Greenpoint by various waves of migration, with special focus on the impact made by Poles.

The picnic, organised by the Polish Cultural Institute in New York also featured Polish cuisine and music and a lottery with three trips to Poland up for grabs.

Some 400,000 poles live in New York, according to the institute.

Poland regained independence on November 11, 1918, the day World War I ended, after 123 years of partition by Russia, Austria and Prussia. (vb)
